HARLEY-DAVIDSON the AMERICAN MOTORCYCLE

Laura Stonebreaker claimed her car insurance after being the victim of a crash two years ago. “You know that sick feeling you get in your gut?” Stonebreaker said. “I knew she didn’t see me. I knew she was going to hit me.” Stonebreaker lost her leg in the crash and has endured six operations, months of rehabilitation and nearly $300,000 in medical costs. But what causes her the most pain, she said, is the feeling that she has been forgotten by everyone and left to fend for herself.

Stonebreaker was riding her 2000 Harley-Davidson motorcycle near her home in rural Corunna, traveling south on C.R. 13 on May 22, 2006, when a blue Toyota turned left into a driveway — directly in her path. According to police report, the other driver said she did not see Stonebreaker approaching.

Stonebreaker’s bike slammed into the passenger side of the car, and her right leg was crushed between the two vehicles. Her head slammed into the car’s windshield. Several inches of tissue and muscle were sheared off her leg, leaving the bone exposed. Stonebreaker was thrown 70 feet and landed in a hay field.

“I was wearing a helmet, otherwise I would not be here today,” Stonebreaker said. Lying in the field waiting for the Samaritan helicopter, she was fully conscious,  Stonebreaker said.  “I found out later — from my insurance company — that the other driver had contacted her insurance company to get auto insurance during that time I was waiting for the Samaritan helicopter,” Stonebreaker said. The accident report said the crash occurred at 3:14 p.m. An insurance official told Stonebreaker that at 3:15 p.m., the other driver did not have auto insurance, but by 3:37 p.m. she was covered. Later, when the other driver’s insurance company ruled her policy was null and void, she was cited with failure to show proof of insurance, an infraction.

Stonebreaker, who is employed as a maintenance mechanic at Cooper-Standard Automotive in Auburn, spent two days in an intensive-care unit and nearly four weeks in the hospital. Her leg bones were splinted and the bone was destroyed. Doctors amputated her leg below the knee and then, a few days later, amputated it above the knee. Doctors put a metal bar in Stonebreaker’s femur and repaired her broken hip with plates and screws. She had three broken vertebrae in her back, and her left hand was broken.

She was released from the hospital June 16, 2006, but faced months of grueling rehabilitation. She did not return to work until May 2007. DeKalb County court records show that the other driver was issued two tickets, one for $161.50 on May 22, 2006, for failure to yield and one for $209.50 for failure to provide financial responsibility or insurance on July 22, 2006. The court allows 60 to 90 days for the fines to be paid. Documents show that the driver failed to appear in court or pay the tickets or late fees. The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles was notified Aug. 2, 2006, and her driver’s license was suspended.

And that’s where everything came to a stop, Stonebreaker said. Her insurance covered about 80 percent of her $300,000 in medical costs, but Stonebreaker was left with a large portion to pay out of her own pocket.

Stonebreaker said she filed a lawsuit in February 2007 to garnishee the other driver’s wages for restitution, but the woman filed bankruptcy, and the garnishment was canceled. Stonebreaker wonders why the other driver was not tested for alcohol or drugs at the scene of the crash.  “Anyone involved in a serious accident should be tested,” she said

MILITARY HARLEY DAVIDSON

The name Harley-Davidson is synonymous with the US motorcycle industry. It is now, after more than a century of operation, one of only two US-based manufacturers to survive. Although the company's origins are older, 1903 is generally regarded as the year when the company's first motorcycle was produced. Three years later, the company's first factory was opened. By 1917, and the US entry into World War 1, Harley-Davidson had been making motorcycles for more than a decade and, during the USA's relatively brief involvement in that conflict, no fewer than 20,000 motorcycles were supplied to the military helping the company to become the largest motorcycle manufacturer in the world by 1920. Surviving the Great Depression, Harley-Davidson was to become one of the prime suppliers of equipment again when hostilities resumed, producing no fewer than 90,000 motorcycles for US and Canadian forces during World War 2 with a further 30,000 going to the Soviet Union as part of the Lend-Lease program.

In Military Harley-Davidson, Pat Ware explores the Harley-Davidson motorcycle in military service from the earliest days onwards. Providing initially an overview of the company and its history from 1903, the bulk of the book concentrates on the range of models produced by the company and how they were exploited for military use. Whilst the book concentrates primarily on those motorcycles produced for use by the Allies in World War 2, the continuing military role of the Harley-Davidson in other theaters postwar is also covered. Alongside the narrative and a fascinating selection of images, the book also includes a full technical specification for each of the models discussed.

The Harley-Davidson is one of the great names in the history of motorcycles with a fan-base that extends worldwide. The role of the company in the provision of military hardware is a less well known but fascinating part of the history of the company and its products. This book will be of interest to Harley-Davidson fans and owners and all motor cycle enthusiasts, military historians, wargamers and preservationists.

At the Creation: Myth, Reality, and the Origins of the

Backed by a decade of research, At the Creation documents for the first time the early and critical years of the Harley-Davidson motorcycle in its birthplace of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Herbert Wagner brings to life the human side of Harley-Davidson's quest to motorize the bicycle and then promote it as a powerful, fast, reliable, and thrilling means of personal transportation. This book examines the origins of two-wheeled transportation at a time when combining the gasoline engine with the bicycle was the province of dreamers and con men. This is the definitive account of the beginnings of the only American motorcycle brand to ultimately succeed and survive.

There are a plethora of articles, real estate seminars and courses on how to make money in foreclosure investing. The most interesting thing is that so many people plunk out hundreds and thousands of dollars for these investing courses before even knowing what a real estate foreclosure is. Let’s look at a comparison, would you pay thousands for a Harley Davidson motorcycle before you even knew what a Harley looked like? I think not. So why is it so many people rush to buy foreclosure courses before knowing what a foreclosure looks like?

So as I learned from the enlightened wealth institute, a foreclosure can look like a completely run down house, with major repairs needed both inside and outside as the homeowner simply ran out of money to maintain the house, keep his/her payments up to date and a tell tale sign is a growing pile of weeds and dead grass in the front yard. Some real estate foreclosures also look like pretty homes in pretty neighborhoods as the homeowner is battling to keep the home and even thought he or she may not be making their mortgage payments, they are still able to pay their utility bills and keeps the house looking pretty.

From a pure paper analysis, a Real Estate foreclosure usually occurs when the borrower fails to pay the debt. The bank then typically files a notice of default after ninety days and the clock start ticking to the day where the bank will take possession of the home. It is important to keep in mind when and if you do start foreclosure investing that there are different reasons the homeowner got into this position; such as taking on too much loan amount, the loss of employment, death, bankruptcy and other reasons. You will negotiate better with the homeowner if you can empathize with their situation.

We hear it on the media all the time now that yes indeed we are in a tsunami of foreclosures in America right now. Investing in the foreclosure market then is like learning to swim, you need to watch out for the deep water and be aware that there are a lot of sharks out there as well. You can’t just dive in deep without slowly training yourself up for it and start in the shallow clear water first. For instance, don’t try to do a one million dollar priced home as your first foreclosure deal. Target homes that are worth two hundred thousand or less so that you have less risk if anything goes wrong. It also makes sense to have a coach in the beginning; either ask a local real estate investor doing well to coach you for a fee or investigate all the real estate courses out there.

So in case you want to start a foreclosure investing business, all you have to do is just jump into the water you have been trained for. Here are some tips that will help you make better deals in the foreclosure market:

1. Get some private money contacts or pre approved by a lender. This will hasten the process of buying the property.

2. Get a great real estate website and blog that attracts buyers so you can ‘cash out’ of your property in days because you had buyers ready!

3. Google “foreclosure education and strategy” to find FREE resources.

4. Invest at least 5 hours a week learning more about foreclosure investing, start out with fifty dollars or so to buy some reading material on foreclosures.

5. Consider investing in a higher end coaching program to be guided step-by-step by people who have a successful track record.

Outlaw Machine: Harley Davidson and the Search for the American

The legendary story of Harley-Davidson's rise to power--not only as an international industry leader but as an American cultural icon.

How did the Harley-Davidson motorcycle, originally a machine for casual riders, evolve into a symbol of defiance and liberation? An embellished 1947 Life magazine article about a California town terrorized by gangs of motorcycle punks changed the world's perception of motorcycles from sporty machines to menaces-to-society, and as the loudest and heaviest bikes on the market, Harley-Davidsons were considered the baddest of them all.

Outlaw Machine chronicles the fascinating social history that built Harley-Davidson's reputation--including the rise of Hell's Angels and the counterculture classic Easy Rider--and, more entrancing still, the bike's and its company's storybook rise to international fame and popularity. Written by renowned automotive journalist Brock Yates, Outlaw Machine is the definitive book on the Harley-Davidson and its place in American culture.
