The Shovel Revival: A Motorcycle Manifesto

The Shovel Revival: A Motorcycle Manifesto

Every year, more and more would-be bikers take to the open road in an effort to get some kicks and enjoy a fuller life. But too many, too often, become mesmerized by the image of rough riding icons, and lose track of their own self-exploration. The Shovel Revival is an observation, and an appeal, to every rider of every age, to fearlessly adhere to a higher purpose. Genuine satisfaction on the road comes in the form of risk-taking and letting loose, not following the crowd or playing dress-up.

Original Harley Davidson Knucklehead (Original Series)

Harley-Davidson stunned the world when it unveiled its EL 61, better known as the Knucklehead, on November 25, 1935. The overhead-valve technology was impressive at a time when sidevalve engines were the order of the day, and the engine formed the basis for all Harley Big Twins to follow, right through the Evolution engines of the 1980s and 90s. But what really grabbed enthusiasts' attention was the styling of the new Harleys. The Knucklehead formed the die from which all future cruisers would be cast. Fittingly, Knuckleheads are much sought after by collectors today. This book, like others in the Original series, aids anyone collecting or refurbishing these classic Harleys. It illustrates and describes the correct parts, finishes, and options and trim pieces for all Knuckleheads, from the 1936 debut through the 1947 bikes, the last year of production.

There & Back Again To See How Far It Is: Cultural Observations

Vultures wheeled overhead as Tim Watson found himself running out of fuel in the desert. Indeed he had many hair-raising encounters in his 8,000-mile ride across small-town America – severe dust storms, mountain snow, an angry rattlesnake and even angrier racoon, not to mention weird folk, and the novice rider’s struggles with a huge motorcycle. His account, informative and hilarious, is a must for armchair adventurers and anyone who has ever wondered what small-town America is really like.
